Is Microsoft Access still supported?

Have an Access problem right now?

Yes. Microsoft Access is still included in Microsoft 365 business and enterprise plans, and Microsoft continues to ship updates and security fixes for it. If you use Access through a current Microsoft 365 subscription, your version is supported.

The picture is different for standalone, one-time-purchase versions. Access 2016 and 2019 reached end of support in October 2025, and Access 2021 followed in October 2026. Those versions still open and run, but they no longer get security updates, which is a real risk for any database holding customer, patient, or financial data. Access 2024 is supported until October 2029.

The other thing to know is that Microsoft hasn’t added major new features to Access in years. Its investment has moved to the Power Platform (Power Apps, Dataverse, and Power Automate), which handles the things Access was never built for: browser and mobile access, many users working at once, and cloud security.

So Access isn’t going away tomorrow. But if your database is running on an older version, or your team has outgrown a single shared file, now is a good time to plan your next step rather than wait for something to break.
